Marradune

Nombre común: marradune (Eusko-oiloa).

Nombre científico: Gallus gallus.

Características morfológicas: ave más bien grande, de cresta sencilla, orejas rojas y tarsos amarillos. El tono del plumaje es marrón rojizo, pero con rayas o listas blancas. Es una raza rustica aceptada tanto para la puesta de huevos como para la producción de carne.

Producción: huevos y carne.

Alimentación: comen de todo; cereales como el maíz y trigo y, por supuesto, verdura.

Características reproductivas: es ovíparo, pone huevos, con cáscara de color marrón y de gran tamaño que luego incuba la hembra durante 21 días.

Curiosidades: autóctonos del País Vasco. Los huevos tienen la cáscara marrón. En el País Vasco siempre se cotizo más el huevo de color oscuro que el blanco.

Nutrition: they eat everything; cereals such as corn and wheat and vegetables.

Reproductive characteristics: they are oviparous, they lay eggs, with brown shell and big size that are incubated by the female for 21 days. 

Curiosities: their eggs’ shell is brown. In the Basque Country dark eggs are more valuable than white eggs.
